IDEA: to make Elia glow using layers...

A copy of the original was made; Quick Selection Tool helped chose the sky and a Layer Mask was created to apply to the sky only.
Multiply Blending mode and Opacity 80% made the sky darker and more colorful.
A new layer was created with Overlay and 50% gray to draw upon with white - Opacity and Fill to 50 - to make Elia stand more out and have a kind of glow.
Another new layer was created - Overlay and 50% gray - to draw the foreground lighter
Finally, the Gradient Tool was used going from black in the top to nothing in the bottom to make the sky more dark, applied Soft Light Blending Mode with Opacity 50% to make it soft.

Composition: Diagonal Rule - and Elia at one thirds...
